College & Career Readiness Awareness Campaign

College & Career

Readiness Awareness

I have the pleasure of working on a unique project ongoing project for one of my clients. This project is designed to increase the reach of college and career opportunities through directed education. Juárez Consulting Inc. is committed to serving communities seeking college & career readiness. Competitive college admissions entails focused strategic planning. Building an information capacity for parents and families is a crucial aspect of serving students, families & partners.

My participation in this effort is to provide visualizations & documents to better inform Juárez Consulting’s clients both individual students & their families, as well as larger entities such as school districts & non-profits as they all align to improve & enhance educational, college & career opportunities for a new generation.

Visualizing Education Across a Student’s Journey

There is a lot to process in navigating towards higher education. Sending one’s child to college or a trade school and the variety of information is staggering. Families can no longer “get started” going to college upon entering high school. It’s especially staggering if you are a minority student, first generation college bound student or an immigrant student.

It’s noted that 42 percent of students whose parents attended college graduated within four years, only 27 percent of first-generation students graduated within four years.

  1. While nearly 60 percent of students whose parents attended college graduated within five years, less than 45 percent of first-generation students graduated in the same time frame.

  2. While 64 percent of students whose parents attended college graduated within six years, only 50 percent of first-generation students earned their degrees in that time frame.

Premier America Credit Union

My client, Sylvia Juárez, later asked that I take some of the same elements from the above graphics and redesign them for a proposal to Premier America Credit Union. The goal is to gather more financial backing for this ongoing project, leveraging Premier America Credit Union Foundation community. The design of this project utilized a Powerpoint presentation incorporating some of the animations available to make the presentation more interesting, whether that presentation was presented in person or the file emailed to recipients.

A Few Special Art Pieces…

  • The Graduate...

Sylvia’s own son Cristian, graduated from his Associate’s program and I was asked to create coloring pages from two of his favorite photos to be included as part of the online Zoom Celebration party marking this achievement.

  • Fun Times with Pennywise...

Cristian has always had a love for comics, science fiction and horror. This was a favorite photo from a ComicCon convention a few years back.

  • A Graduate Coloring Page

In the creation of these coloring pages, Adobe Photoshop was my starting point for dropping out the background, creating focus on Cristian and then clean up rough edges.

  • Un-coloring a Clown...

Additional line work was created in Adobe Illustrator and the final products were saved as Adobe pdf files to be sent to family and friends as part of a coloring booklet.
